What I have been doing in my life

About 6 months ago, I began to freak out about money and decided I needed to help out a bit with our finances. I decided to go and work for the school district. I figured I could be a teachers aide and grade papers or what evermindless work they wanted me to do. I was interviewed by two principals at the same time and was chosen to work for Panama Elementary School here on the outskirts of town. I was hired to work in two Kindergarten classrooms. Both are SEI which is basically english language learners. I was hired as a Title 1 aide. My a.m. class has only 11 students and I service all 11, my p.m. class only has 9 students who are also all serviced. I absolutely adore them. I have always wanted to be a K teacher. I think it is the best grade because you can see such an amazing amount of growth by the end of the school year. They crack me up and are so eager to please. I was asked to step in and take over for a girl who was going on maternity leave and who we didn't think was coming back. So thankfully my friend Lisa who was watching the boys decided she could handle them for 2 more hours, and I accepted. I now teach 35 kindergarteners, 3 first graders and a second grader. I am so sad for my older kids who are in such need of help and don't really know if what I do with them is even making a difference. But I keep going in the chance that it will. I love what I do, and I am even learning a little spanish as my kids "quiz" me on spanish vocab. It is funny to see their eyes light up when I get a word right. I will post a photo of them later.

You're so good. I doing good to handle the kids I know, let alone take on more. But, you're not as anal and uptight as me. I wish I were more laid back. I'm sure everyone wishes that about me as well.

Lisa Lisa lisa... That's awesome Jana!!! How exciting! I can see how awesome you would be at that. Keep up the good work, I'm sure you're helping those kids in ways you're unaware of too.

Hi Jana! I am so excited to read about what you guys are up to! I have been so out of touch with people in Bakersfield other than my family, blogging has been my link lately. I'll look forward to seeing more.
